Ask, Seek, Knock

Matthew-7-7As we prepare for our VBS this year,
I am reminded of this poem

No Time To Pray

I got up early one morning

and rushed right into the day;

I had so much to accomplish

that I didn’t have time to pray.

Problems just tumbled about me,

and heavier came each task,

“Why doesn’t God help me?” I wondered.

He answered, “You didn’t ask.

I wanted to see joy and beauty,

but the day toiled on gray and bleak;

I wondered why God didn’t show me;

He said, “But you didn’t seek.”

I tried to come into God’s presence;

I used all my keys at the lock;

God gently and lovingly chided,

“My child you didn’t knock.

I woke up early this morning,

and paused before entering the day;

I had so much to accomplish

that I had to take time to pray.

Keep Asking, Seeking, Knocking

Matthew 7:

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

C.S. Lewis – Me…

C.S. Lewis – Mere Christianity

Very often the only way to get a quality in reality is to start behaving as if you had it already. That is why children’s games are so important. They are always pretending to be grown-ups—playing soldiers, playing shop. But all the time, they are hardening their muscles and sharpening their wits so that the pretence of being grown-up helps them to grow up in earnest.

Now, the moment you realise ‘Here I am, dressing up as Christ,’ it is extremely likely that you will see at once some way in which at that very moment the pretence could be made less of a pretence and more of a reality. You will find several things going on in your mind which would not be going on there if you were really a son of God. Well, stop them. Or you may realise that, instead of saying your prayers, you ought to be downstairs writing a letter, or helping your wife to wash- up. Well, go and do it.

Quote of the Da…

Quote of the Day by C.S. Lewis

No amount of falls will really undo us if we keep picking our- selves up each time. We shall of course be very muddy and tattered children by the time we reach home. But the bathrooms are all ready, the towels put out, & the clean clothes are in the airing cupboard. The only fatal thing is to lose one’s temper and give it up. It is when we notice the dirt that God is most present in us; it is the very sign of His presence.

Every Step of the Way

Mrs. Charles Cowman, Streams in the Desert

The road is too rough,’ I said; ‘It is uphill all the way;

No flowers, but thorns instead;

And the skies over head are grey.’

But One took my hand at the entrance dim,

And sweet is the road that I walk with Him.

 “The cross is too great,’ I cried–

‘More than the back can bear,

So rough and heavy and wide,

And nobody by to care.’

And One stooped softly and touched my hand:

‘I know. I care. And I understand.’

“Then why do we fret and sigh;

Cross-bearers all we go:

But the road ends by-and-by

In the dearest place we know,

And every step in the journey we

May take in the Lord’s own company.

It’s not that we will never face things we cannot bare, but rather that Jesus is there every step of the way to handle it for us. Thank you, Lord for bearing our burdens.
