A Word of Encouragement

Why, O Lord?

{I’m writing today with Kate Motaung and the Five Minute Friday crew on the prompt, Why?

Psalm 44:23-26 (NIV)

23 Awake, Lord! Why do you sleep?
    Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever.
24 Why do you hide your face
    and forget our misery and oppression?

25 We are brought down to the dust;
    our bodies cling to the ground.
26 Rise up and help us;
    rescue us because of your unfailing love.

Why, Lord, am I suffering from all this pain?

And why are you taking from me everything I love to do?

Why are we meeting up with more trouble one after the other?

W___ don’t you correct the problem?

W___ am I being treating so unfairly?

I asked God these very questions.

Have you asked God these kinds of questions? It’s okay, you know. To ask God questions. It’s an indication that you want to see the plans of God.

God has his reasons for allowing trials to last a while. It could be that he wants us to wait for the perfect timing.

Timing is key to God’s plan.

Even the timing of sending His Son to Earth was the key to many things.

Galatians 4:4 says, “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.”

The Israelites must have wondered why God was waiting to send the Messiah. They must have wondered “Where are you God?” in those 400 years of silence. But God’s timing was perfect.

The Bible gives us no reason, but if you look at history, you will find that the great Roman road system and the peace of the Roman Empire made it possible for the Gospel to be spread to the whole known world. That piece of information just excites me to no end. God was aware of when it would be easiest for the Gospel to be spread all over the world. No other time in history was news spread so easily until now.

God’s Timing is Still Perfect Today

When we relate this to our own story, we can see that God sees the past, the present, and the future. He knows exactly when our prayer needs to be answered.

Hang on.

Don’t stop praying

Keep waiting on Him.

Don’t take things into your own hands.

Here’s a song to help you hang on!

  1. oh yes, He loves us so much. He only wants what is best for us. He understands that we don’t see everything as He does. If we would only learn to trust Him fully with our lives.

  2. I am so thankful that God does not reject us when we bring our questions to Him! Thank you for this good reminder that HIS timing is always perfect!
