The Solid Rock Can Be Your Support

I’m Joining the writers at Five Minute Friday to write for 5 minutes on this prompt.

Giving Support

When I heard the prompt, “support” my mind went in many directions. So many ideas came to mind.

  • Support the hurricane victims
  • Support your ball team
  • Support your local church
  • Support Your Local Sheriff (a Western Comedy)

Support me in the whelming flood

But my mind kept going to a phrase from a favorite hymn, “..support me in the whelming flood”. It stayed with me all day so I knew this was where I should go.

The ‘whelming flood .. so many throughout the world are in the midst of literal flooding. Possibly, you have spent much time these past few weeks trying to clean up the muck from a flooded home. But then again, you may have floods of other types

I’m here to say that it doesn’t really matter what floods are coming your way. Jesus Christ is the Solid Rock on which you can stand and be surefooted when all around you gives way. Just reach out and call out to Him. He will reach back and pull you to safety. Lean on Him and let him support you.

We all have times when the darkness seems to hide His face. It feels as though God is nowhere to be found. But we can rest secure in His Grace even though the storm clouds gather. Jesus, the solid Rock will be our anchor.

His promises are true.

He made a covenant to save you when He went to the cross. His oath is sure. God can be trusted. He is our rock in the whelming flood. When it seems the waves have overwhelmed us and we are going down for the last time. He will support us and bring us through.

All we need to do is ask. Give our lives into His control. If you haven’t done this. I pray that you will. It’s very easy to do… Easy as A,B,C

A – Accept that you are a sinner.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

There is no one righteous, no not one. Our deeds are as filthy rags compared to His holiness. Romans 3:10; Isaiah 64:6

B – Believe in Jesus Christ as Savior

God so loved the World that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

C – Confess your sins and turn from wrong.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

It’s that simple.

If you have done this today, praise the Lord for what He has done. Get support and instruction from a pastor or Christian in your town. Write me a note. I would love to hear from you and support you online.

  1. So true. Jesus is my solid rock of support. We just have to continuously call upon Him in all things and not wait until we encounter a flood.

  2. Thanks, for coming by. We still sing an occasional hymn at church but I really miss singing from the hymnal in four-part harmony. Nothing like it!

  3. Oh! my Goodness! Seriously? You haven’t heard this hymn? It one of my favorites and we sang it often in the Methodist and NAzaerene churches. Well, now you know it! 🙂

    Thanks, for dropping by!

  4. What an interesting phrase ‘the welming flood’ and the way you applied it to the other afflictions and anxieties of life – so clever 🙂
