Growing Pains ~ Fibromyalgia?

Back in the day, they called it growing pains.

Well, I had enough growing pains to be ten feet tall. But there was never any evidence of a problem, just pain after exertion. Several times during the 5th and 6th grade, I had excruciating chest pain. This pain took my breath away and felt like I was having a heart attack.

Mom would come pick me up from school.

By the time we arrived at the doctor or the ER, I was fine. The doctor’s diagnosis was “Growing Pains”. Who knew that it was the beginning of a lifetime of pain.

I’m gearing up to write a book so this month, please allow me to re-blog posts from my internet fibro community. Here’s more about the relationship of “growing pains” to Fibromyalgia.

  1. Thankfully I didn’t have lots of pain as a child just spurts of it. My extreme pain started after a cruise in 2011. I am so grateful to have a very supportive husband. I treat with Savella and prednisone. I am almost weaned off the prednisone..only took 6 years. Ha!
    Thanks for stopping by.

  2. Oh wow! I can’t imagine having it as a child as well! How awful. I hate that people don’t take it seriously. My husband is kind of among those that roll their eyes. I think it confuses him that I can go through c-sections without batting an eye, but a rub the wrong way makes me cry. I’ve tried explaining that the brain interprets pain wrong, so it DOES make sense…. but what can you do? :0/ Do you treat with medicine? I use exercise only, but when I lapse for more than a few days, it’s blah all over again.
