But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.”
I previewed a book awhile back called, Take Hold of the Faith You Long For. The book covers many of the things that hold us back from the victorious Christian life. There is Bible Study in the back which I never completed. Today, I picked it up and did the next lesson … “Even if …”
Fear is one of the BIG issues we as Christians deal with, whether it’s fear to testify or to preach, or fear to take a new job or take the next step [whatever it may be].
Imagine the fear that must have tempted the 3 Israelite men in Daniel 3 when they were confronted about bowing down to the golden statue. I know I would be concerned, if I were facing being thrown into a fiery furnace. I often wonder if I would be this brave.
But I love these men’s response to the king ..
“King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”
Are we fearful to take this kind of stand?
In our world, it may not be too long until we are facing laws that are against the laws of God. But we must remember; God goes before us. He will protect us.
We will be just like those men of Israel in the fire.
God was already there. Those 3 men were standing together, but in themselves, they could not keep each other safe.
BUT GOD. [Don’t you just love those words?]
BUT GOD was there in the fire!
Praise the Lord. He goes before us, beside us, and behind us. And we are safe. (Psalm 139:4)
This promise makes us confident to face the fire. The “fire” may not be an actual fire. It could be a storm, like the one the disciples faced in Mark 4. Again we find men in the boat. But who is also there to calm the storm and keep them safe? Jesus.
No matter what we are facing, God goes before us. He’s already there taking care of it.
According to Webster, fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.
Fear is a feeling. It does not come from God. 2 Timothy 1:6-7 says,
“He has not given us the spirit of fear and timidity, but of POWER, and LOVE, and SELF-DISCIPLINE. ”
Fear comes from the Deceiver. Satan comes to steal your joy. One way he does that is to give you the spirit of fear.
John 10:10 says “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” [NLT]
So take fear captive, because we have the victory.
Nothing can defeat us or separate us from God …
…not even our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow. [Romans 8:35-37]
Paul instructed Timothy to “Fan the Flames of the gift from God”
Use your God-given gifts to move forward and not be fearful because God’s Got This.
He will give you what you need, to do what He has called you to do.
So forget what has happened in the past.
Take that fear and turn it into excitement!
Press on and take hold of the rich and satisfying life God has for you.
You need not fear. You will not get burned.
