Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said,
“Surely the LORD is in this place,
and I wasn’t even aware of it!”
We’ve been reading Advent devotions based on the Jesse Tree this year. Last night, we read about Jacob’s Ladder. To be honest, this event in Jacob’s life never really made any sense to me, especially in how it applies to me… until last night.
Our devotion pointed out, that we can try and try to get to God through our actions, our service, whatever, but we fail time after time. We try to climb the ladder of ‘success’, of perfectionism, of ‘being perfect’. But the reality is… We can’t and we don’t have to climb up to God, because He came down to us and saved us!
And then He waits for us to “awake from our sleep” and realize that He has been here all along, working out the details of our lives. We haven’t understood, why things happen, but God has the master plan all together for our lives and only in retrospect do we see His Hand of Grace and Mercy working. Praise the Lord!
