A Word of Encouragement

5 Excellent Reasons to Attend Church

In our day, it seems Christians do not see the need to attend church.

They feel they live a Christian life through their own personal relationship with themselves and God, no other authority is needed. A 1999  George Barna poll showed that 1 in 7 Christians changes their church affiliation every year and  1 in 6 float from church to church. Many do not attend church at all. This shows that a vast amount of Christians are nomadic hitchhikers living apart from the benefits of the Christian life  with no  ….

Besides the fact that Church is God’s idea, here are 5 reasons we should attend church regularly.

  1. We are the Body

When one of us hurts, we all hurt. When one part is not doing its job, other parts pay the price and the final outcome is that the church does not accomplish as much as it could.

    We have an Eternal Family.

When we become Christians, God adopts us into his family. We now have not only Him as a Father, but so great multitude of brothers and sisters. They become a very special part of our lives, just like our earthly family. The amazing and awesome thing is that we have a forever family. People who truly care about us and love us and help us through life.

We Give and Receive Nurturing.

The church is where we truly grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. We benefit from attending Bible Studies and hearing sermons. We learn far more than we can on our own. Also, we are able to teach and guide others with the knowledge God has given us.

Christian Fellowship

It’s more than just a cup of coffee or a shared meal. These fellowships are where we get to know each other on a more personal basis. This is where we can encourage one another, pray for one another, and draw close to one another.

It’s our Household of Faith

The church is a place for accountability. When we “go it alone”, we tend to select the things that we like about God’s Word. We might leave out the tougher or more controversial issues as if they are not important. Attending Bible Studies and Worship services force us to hear the ‘hard stuff’ along with the easy things. I call them the toe stomping things, but the toe stomping wakes us up and makes us deal with issues in our life. But along with that, it gives us leaders and family that will encourage us to follow through on the hard stuff.

Without Church Attendance, you will have a very poor relationship.

In her book “Disciplines of the Godly Woman” Barbara Hughes states “On the most elementary level, you do not have to go to church to be a Christian. You do not have to go home to be married either. But in both cases, if you do not, you will have a very poor relationship.”

These are not ALL the benefits of church attendance. Maybe you, have one you will share in the comments. Or add something to what I have shared. Would love to hear your thoughts.

  1. “Has it ever occurred to you that one hundred pianos all tuned to the same fork are automatically tuned to each other? They are of one accord by being tuned, not to each other, but to another standard to which each one must individually bow.

So one hundred worshipers meeting together, each one looking away to Christ, are in heart nearer to each other than they could possibly be were they to become unity conscious and turn their eyes away from God to strive for closer fellowship.

Social religion is perfected when private religion is purified. The body becomes stronger as its members become healthier. The whole church of God gains when the members that compose it begin to seek a better and a higher life.” –A.W. Tozer
