FMF : FOCUS

FMF

It’s Friday! It’s been a while since I’ve participated in Five-Minute Fridays, maybe it’s time to get focused. The premise for Five Minute Friday is that you are given one word and you write for five minutes solid. No stopping…no correcting grammar. You can learn more here at Kate Motaung’s blog.

I’m hosting a personal IF:Gathering in my home this weekend. So my mind is really focused on getting  ready for that. I thought … no … I won’t participate in the Five Minute Fridays this week but couldn’t get away from it. So let’s see what comes up in five minutes.

I tend to get sidetracked so easily. Maybe this is a side track even. SO what causes this? In my case, it’s partly because we moved just before the holidays and I haven’t been focused sine.

But really, I think not setting goals. IF you don’t have your goals set, then everything that comes along distracts you. Hebrews says

“Let us drop every extra weight, every sin that clings to us and slackens our pace, and let us run with endurance the long race set before us. Now stay focused on Jesus, who designed and perfected our faith. He endured the cross and ignored the shame of that death because He focused on the joy that was set before Him; and now He is seated beside God on the throne, a place of honor.

I think of Peter walking on the water. He was doing an amazing thing but then he got his eyes off the goal and began to sink. We really have to get those blinders on and not look around. Stay focused on Jesus. He is the ultimate goal.

There’s the key. Focus on Jesus … I can get so focused on other things that I am oblivious to what is going on around me and that time is flying by. Suddenly it’s supper time and I have no supper ready. Yikes! Why don’t we ever get that focused on Jesus?

So  where is the fine line that we must not cross? How do we put on the blinders.

First things first. Start the day with Jesus. Get your eyes on Him. I have this one down (at the moment)

Second.  Set your goals for the day. In my case, I’m thinking I need to set some timers to remind me to change gears. BUT I have so many reminders on my phone already I tend to ignore them.

I think I may need to read what everyone else writes. Maybe they have some good advice for me!

OR maybe you do. I’m open to your suggestions.

In the meantime, I’ll be FOCUSED on the IF:GATHERING

  1. I like your advice about having goals to help you stay focussed. I also find it very easy to get distracted. We wrote along similar lines about keeping focussed on Jesus. I quoted the verse from Hebrews as well and was thinking about Peter walking on water but didn’t write about it in the end. Keeping our focus on Jesus is really the most important thing. Visiting from FMF.

  2. I am watching the If:Gathering at home, and I love how their conversation about focus and distraction fits right in with your post!

  3. The IF Gathering sounds wonderful. Maybe I’ll find one near me sometime. Yes, if we could only remember to focus on Christ all the time, we would be more ready to tackle our days.

  4. Enjoy your IF gathering! I’m learning the discipline of staying focused–but it’s not easy! I find that list-making (and checking) is rewarding for me, so I’ve been doing that to help me stay focused.

I love reading your comments. Tell me what you think.
