As a child, I had a wonderful relationship with my father. I recall many a times climbing up into his lap when I needed a little assurance or encouragement. He gave me the most wonderful picture of the #perfectlove of God. As an adult, I have many times crawled up in “God’s lap” in my mind for that love and assurance. After college graduation, I moved 1000 miles away from my family. I had many, many days of loneliness and discouragement. That image in God’s lap is what got me through! I am so grateful because many of my friends do not have a good example of a loving Father and I have often wondered how I could help them find that picture.
The legacy, my parents and grandparents built for me has been a lasting one. And even though I struggled with self-esteem for many years, that legacy was there to guide me and encourage me. Even though, my parents aren’t nearby, I “hear” their instructions and I know how to find my way into God’s lap. The best way is through The Word of God. I was trained up memorizing scripture. Our parents encouraged it any way they could and now when needed the file drawer of verses opens up and fills my thoughts and encourages my life.
Proverbs 30:5 (God’s Lap)
” Every word of God proves true. He is a shield to all who come to him for protection.”
P.S. I have a picture of my dad with five of us kids on his lap. I looked for it all day, if I find it I’ll add it. 🙂
